    • Synopsis
    • Lonely and unbalanced Leta Parenti has developed a fascination with a string of break-ins in the San Fernando Valley that seem completely pointless: nothing is stolen, nothing is destroyed, if not for Ring cameras or neighbor testimony nobody would even notice. After spending some time tracking these crimes, she finds herself in the middle of them when she meets the perpetrator, a nervy man named Arto, who insists that the break-ins are purely a form of performance art – nothing more, nothing less. Transfixed, she joins him as a driver, and starts pushing to escalate their “performances.”

Eventually, their relationship reaches a breaking point due to Leta’s escalation, and they part ways. As Leta attempts to navigate her newfound obsession with “artistic” home invasions, her sister April, in the dark about this development, tries to ground her: get her into therapy, get her involved in family, even get a date. The latter decision proves fateful, when Leta is set up with a friendly detective named Paul, who she manipulates into helping her determine Arto’s real identity: burnt out high school biology teacher Allan Ashdown.

Now in the power position, Leta trains her sights on an invasion target: Allegra, a wealthy woman whose path she crosses at random one day. She begins to stalk Allegra, escalating to the point of stowing away secretly in her attic. This eventually turns apocalyptic – in a blood-soaked climax, Allegra kills her husband in a domestic dispute and flees, Leta kills Allegra’s son Mikey when he comes home, kills Arto after calling him for help, and then disappears. Hair dyed, staying in a motel somewhere in the desert, Leta goes to a club and dances, free and fully herself for the first time in her life.
