    • Synopsis
    • In search of his ex-girlfriend, Ernesto (30), a rational accountant, arrives in El Bolsón, a strange Patagonian paradise that fills him with fear. He accidentally crashes into a man dressed as a goblin, who punches him and breaks his face. Ernesto is knocked unconscious, loses his luggage, and ends up seeking shelter with a group of hippies who believe they will be rescued by extraterrestrials at the end of the world.
Karen (27), a charming hippie, is kind and invites him to stay at her place, convinced his arrival is part of a “galactic plan.” Her house is a total mess, and Ernesto helps them tidy up, though they don’t care because the end of the world is coming anyway.
Ernesto plays along with their preparations for the great final plan — the “extraterrestrial rescue”: recruiting people, building little boats, attending talks that no one shows up to. Although he admires their conviction and faith, he admits he does not believe any of it. Hurt, Karen points out that his own world, “worshipping the photocopier god,” is even more ridiculous.
Ernesto learns that a goblin burned down the post office along with the money sent to him, leaving him unable to return home. He promises to stay with the “galactics” to support them until the end; he knows that when the rescue fails they will be devastated, and he wants to be there for Karen. He eventually finds his ex—but she no longer means anything to him.
The great day of the “rescue” arrives. The group’s leader disappears; Ernesto assumes she simply ran away. Then Karen disappears into the sea. Did she drown, take her own life, or was she truly taken by aliens?
Back to making photocopies, Ernesto returns to his dull routine. He chooses to believe—and goes back to the sea. The wind turns stormy… Suddenly, in the sky, beneath an enormous blinding light…
