- ‘Where do I go? I’m all confused. I feel like being in a movie.’
  In September 1998 Fransje (76) was admitted in a nursing-home. Her daughter Fleur (37) cannot but consider this development in her mother's illness as a defeat for the caring family. ‘You have to learn to let go and say goodbye...’
  Up to that point Fleur tried to be at her mothers side in the familiar surroundings of her own home. By visiting her mother as often as possible, Fleur tries to keep her out of a increasingly solitary existence and by doing so they develop a renewed intense contact. Together they look at family-photo's and discover this new world of Fransje: the irresistibility of fluffy animals, the intricacy of the sliding elevator-doors in the nursing-home, and why Wim's name is Wim... ‘hi mum’ how are you doing today? asks the daughter over and over. Each time her mother responds with a smile, still recognizing a familiar aspect in an otherwise so unfamiliar world.
  
  Fleur van Dissel received her Master’s in Visual Communication at the 'Hochschule der Kunste' in Berlin. She began her career as an artist and designer for various theaters and Dutch cultural institutions. She emerged as a videoartist and entered the media platform when she made her first documentary ‘Hi, mum’ (1999) with the Dutch broadcaster VPRO Television. The love story between Fleur and her mother with Alzheimer’s won a Foreign Documentary award in New York and received a special jury prize in Pärnu (Estonia).
