- Synopsis
- In the Chilean mining industry, the reconciliation between job and family has created extreme tensions that have provoked an imbalance in the emotional ties of the miners, accentuating their role as financial providers in the interior of their household and the greater productive role they play within society. In this entry, the working demands of this production, which is competitive and globalized, tends to legitimize a style of peripheral and absent paternity, that leaves marks in the miners, and their spouse children that stem for the absence, the loneliness, and the distances that purposely generate from the demanding work shifts. In this documentary, we have accompanied a group of Faeneros, or truck drivers that transport mining extractions from the north to the south of Chile, in their daily lives through the mining routes, and in conversation with their children and spouses. We have also sought out the tales of the old generations of saltpeter miners in order to recuperate juvenile images of the now antique mining camps, of which gave origin to the grand Chilean cooper mines.
